On Digitalocean, VPS is known as Droplet. You can easily create, resize & destroy your droplet within a few clicks and they’ll charge you only for billed for each hour that you used it. So, here is the step by step guide on how to set up Digitalocean droplet.
First, Click on Create and then Droplets (As you can see on below image)
Now select Distributions. We recommend Ubuntu 18.04. You can select different Distributions as per your need. You can also select the 1-click install option (under Marketplace). 1-click install option is best for beginners.
Next select Droplet size. Choose the lowest plan that is $5/mo because you can resize your droplet in the future. On $5 plan, you’ll get 1vCPU, 1GB RAM, 25GB SSD storage & 1TB transfer which is enough for a small WordPress blog.
After choosing the plan, now time to select datacentre. Select a datacentre which is closer to you. They have 10+ datacentre worldwide you can choose from.
Finally Select additional options: IPv6 & Monitoring and enter droplet name and hit create droplet button. It may take a few seconds to ready. That’s all. You have successfully created a Droplet on Digitalocean.
Check your registered email for the root password. Open terminal (Mac & Linux user) or Putty (Windows users) start configuring.

They have a pay as you go, price model. All Droplets are billed hourly up to a monthly. If you use your server for fewer than a month then you will be billed for each hour that you used the Droplet. If you use your server for more than 672 hours in a month then you will be billed at the monthly cost.
You’ll be charged if you power off your Droplet. This is because your disk space, CPU, RAM, and IP address are all reserved, even while powered off. Therefore, charges are made until you destroy the instance.
